Official Statement of the Vermilion Parish School System
In the midst of weathering the COVID-19 Pandemic, our nation is also facing increased racial tension resulting from the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd in Minneapolis. Because we are all connected by our common humanity, if one segment of our community is hurting, it adversely impacts all of us. We hear the needs of the Vermilion Parish community to have an honest dialogue about these issues and pledge to develop steps to address these through our daily activities, relationships, teaching, leadership and policies. We also recognize and acknowledge the anguish that these incidents are causing for our community. During this time of immense challenge, it is imperative that our Vermilion Parish employees work together to promote healing, education, support and connection. The Vermilion Parish School System is committed to increasing the training available to all faculty, staff and students to ensure that we have the resources needed to foster a system that embraces cultural sensitivity and our district mission statement.
The Vermilion Parish School System does not condone divisive language or divisive actions. We are “One Vermilion.”
